HEALTHY EATING TIP OF THE DAY – Tips for cutting down on sugar and salt * Slowly reduce the sugar and salt in your diet a little at a time and let your taste buds become accustomed to the lack of sugar and eventually, the craving will subside. * Avoid Processed or packaged foods like canned soups, frozen dinners, or low-fat meals that often contain hidden sugar and sodium that quickly surpasses the recommended limit. Prepare more meals at home and use fresh or frozen vegetables instead of canned goods. * Pay attention when eating out. many restaurant menus now offer lighter food options, but still pay attention to your calorie consumption before the main course arrives. Always ask for gravies and salad dressings to be on the side and it’s okay to say NO bread for the table. * Eat healthier snacks. Buy unsalted nuts and snack on naturally sweet foods such as fruit, peppers or natural peanut butter to satisfy your sweet tooth. * Cook with more herbs and spices, such as garlic, curry powder, cayenne or black pepper, to improve the flavor of meals instead of salt. * Avoid sugary drinks by drinking sparkling or seltzer water, they are available in so many blends, I know you will find one or two that will become your favorite. One of my favorite is Polar Seltzer water – Vanilla Pear, so refreshing..
